The product was distributed to retail stores in Virginia on Dec. 6 and 7. The affected product is packaged in 1-pound plastic bags and labeled under the Nam & Son of MD DBA Sam Sung S & M Food and has a “Sell By” date of Dec. 14.

Patient Count Linked to Lead Poisoning from Applesauce Increases

Study looks at using antimicrobials in coatings for stone fruits to make them safer and last longer

A new project explores the addition of food-grade antimicrobials to the wax and fungicidal coatings applied to stone fruit to reduce contamination risks and extend shelf life. While stone fruit, fleshy fruit with a hard pit, is generally considered safe, multi-state outbreaks and recalls prompted Dr. Qixin Zhong of the University of Tennessee to investigate ways to enhance safety.

One dead in UK E. coli outbreak linked to raw milk cheese

One person has died in a Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) outbreak in the United Kingdom, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). UKHSA, Public Health Scotland (PHS), and other agencies are investigating the E. coli O145 outbreak identified by analyzing whole genome sequencing (WGS) data. Thirty confirmed cases have been reported across England and Scotland since late July 2023, with the majority in December.
