FDA sends warning letter to New Hampshire food firm because of pests in warehouse

As part of its enforcement activities, the Food and Drug Administration sends warning letters to entities under its jurisdiction. Some letters are not posted for public view until weeks or months after they are sent. Business owners have 15 days to respond to FDA warning letters. Warning letters often are not issued until a company has been given months to years to correct problems.

Botulism sickens four in Argentina; Trichinella update shared

Four suspected cases of foodborne botulism are under investigation in Argentina. In late August, the National Health Surveillance System was notified of the cases following a meeting at a house in the district of Buenos Aires. Three patients are adults and one is a child under 5 years old. All of them have been hospitalized and received treatment with antitoxin.

STR Weekly Insights: 20-26 August 2023

Heading into the final days of August, U.S. hotel occupancy (65%) was lower for a fifth consecutive week, which is in line with normal seasonal patterns. The measure was up 0.3 percentage points (ppts) from a year ago but 4.9ppts lower than the 2019 comparable—similar to the previous four weeks. Occupancy is still expected to trend down for the next two weeks and then grow as group/conference travel climbs to its annual peak.
