More child labor violations appear to be on the horizon for the regulated meat industry, Perdue Farms and Tyson Foods are reportedly under renewed federal scrutiny for possible illegal child labor practices. Packers Sanitation Services, Tyson Foods contract cleaning agent, was earlier fined $90,828 for using child labor at Tyson’s Green Forest, AR, facility and $15,138 for child labor at Goodlettsville, TN.

Food recalls down but incidents up for Ireland in 2022

The number of recalls declined in 2022, but there was a rise in food incidents, according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI)’s annual report. In 2022, 77 Enforcement Orders were served on food businesses by the FSAI and through other agencies. This included 65 closure orders, 12 prohibition orders, and six prosecutions. Although prosecutions were down compared to 2021, other orders and notices were up.

Allergen failings prompt fines in New Zealand and Wales

Two importers who failed to translate food allergen declarations into English have been fined in New Zealand. Tokyo Food Company was sentenced on two charges under the Food Act, and Japan Mart 2014 Company was hit with one charge under the same law. Both firms pleaded guilty. Tokyo Food Company was fined NZ $21,000 (U.S. $12,500), and Japan Mart 2014 Company was told to pay NZ $7,000 (U.S. $4,200).
