Marler Clark engaged by San Diego and Orange County families on Raw Milk Salmonella Outbreak

San Diego – 12 with Salmonella: County of San Diego health officials are reporting three additional cases of Salmonella illness linked to unpasteurized or “raw” milk from a producer in Fresno, CA. This brings the total number of local cases to 12, including three people who were hospitalized. The cases began in late September and the most recent person became ill on Oct. 17.

Three more people in San Diego have been confirmed to have Salmonella infections linked to raw, unpasteurized milk from Raw Farm LLC dairy in California. Another seven people are now sick in Orange County. As of Oct. 26 there are a 19 outbreak patients. Three of the patients, all children, have been so sick they required hospitalization. The San Diego County health department reports that the illnesses began in mid-September with the most recent person becoming ill on Oct. 17.

More sick people identified in E. coli outbreak traced to San Diego restaurant

San Diego County officials are reporting more patients with E. Coli infections traced to Miguel’s Cocina in 4S Ranch restaurant. Now, 17 patients have been confirmed with seven people, including four children, being hospitalized. As of Oct. 24 there were 13 patients confirmed. The patients range in age from 6 to 87 years old, according to the county health department.

Idaho raw milk outbreak remains under investigation; Provider Farms implicated

Public health officials in Ada County, ID, are investigating an outbreak of infections from Campylobacter linked to the consumption of unpasteurized, raw milk. The Central District Health Office announced the outbreak this week. Five people have tested positive for Campylobacter infections since Sept. 20. Three reported drinking raw milk from Provider Farms in Mountain Home before getting sick.

Foodborne sources suspected in fatal South African cases

Officials in South Africa have issued a warning after several cases of children falling seriously ill after eating different types of snacks. Authorities appealed for calm following reports claiming children had died after consuming items bought from spaza shops. These sites are also called tuck shops and are informal grocery stores. The Gauteng Health Department confirmed the deaths of at least five children due to suspected foodborne sources.
