The most severe signs and symptoms included seizures, loss of consciousness, cardiac arrhythmia, hypotension, dehydration, and anaphylaxis. Oregon officials identified aldicarb sulfoxide (ASO) in several watermelons consumed by persons who had been ill.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the number of children sickened by lead in imported applesauce products has grown from 22 to 34 in the past four days. The implicated Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree pouches were manufactured in Ecuador and sold under the WanaBana, Weis, and Schnucks brands. All three products have been recalled. The recall impacts markets outside of the United States.

U.S. declares Salmonella outbreak traced to imported cantaloupe; Canada also has an outbreak

State and federal officials in the United States and Canada are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella infections traced to cantaloupes. In the United States, 43 people have been confirmed as patients. The outbreak is spread across 15 states. At least 17 people have been so sick they required hospitalization. As of the posting of the outbreak notice on Nov. 17, no one has died.

An Arizona company has expanded its recall of fresh cantaloupe to include more melons after testing has shown contamination with Salmonella. The Malichita brand cantaloupes were distributed in 11 states by Sofia Produce LLC doing business as Trufresh. The company already recalled cantaloupes on Nov. 8. Cantaloupe sold under the Malichita brand have been traced to an outbreak of Salmonella infections in Canada.
