The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) records show the taqueria in Carniceria Guanajuato was inspected on Sept. 8 due to suspected food poisoning, and inspectors found raw beef and raw shelled eggs were being stored above ready-to-eat sliced lettuce inside a prep cooler in the restaurant. The restaurant was issued a citation for improper food storage and was instructed to properly store raw foods to avoid cross-contamination with prepared foods.

The implicated SPAM was under processed, which can lead to contamination. Golden Mushroom brand enoki mushrooms are under recall after government testing showed contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The implicated mushrooms were distributed in Ontario and possibly nationwide in Canada, according to the recall notice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

Additional daycare centers have been closed in Calgary, Canada, as the patient count in an outbreak of E. coli infections continues to increase. There are now 342 confirmed patients, mostly children younger than 5. Alberta’s chief medical officer Dr. Mark Joffe said late Friday night that he has been made aware of additional daycare sites in Calgary where children have tested positive for E. coli.
