Patient count doubles in outbreak traced to cantaloupe; two have died

The patient count in an outbreak traced to cantaloupes has doubled and more recalls have been issued. As of today, Nov. 24, 99 people have been confirmed infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Sundsvall. That is an increase of 56 since the initial outbreak notice was issued Nov. 17 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Two people have died.

Crown Jewels cantaloupe now under recall because of possible Salmonella contamination

Jewel Marketing and Agribusiness LLC (dba Crown Jewels Produce) of Fresno, CA, is recalling Malichita / Z Farms cantaloupes sold between Oct. 31 and Nov. 9 because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella The cantaloupes were distributed to Ohio, and California through retail and wholesale outlets. The individual cantaloupes have a small sticker with the Malichita logo.

Company recalls a dozen cantaloupe products because of possible link to Salmonella outbreak

CF Dallas LLC is recalling select fresh-cut products made from whole cantaloupe subject to a previously announced product recall initiated by Sofia Produce LLC dba Trufresh because of potential Salmonella contamination. Some of the CF products were sold under the RaceTrac brand name. EU assesses horse meat controls in Uruguay and Argentina

The European Commission’s health and safety unit has published findings from two assessments looking at controls on exports of horse meat in Uruguay and Argentina. A DG Sante audit in Uruguay, in October and November 2022, made seven recommendations and found some actions taken since the last visit in 2018 had not solved past issues. Exports of horse meat to the EU were 3,363 tons, 4,356 tons and 3,301 tons in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
