Seafood firms in Hawaii and California warned over violations

As part of its enforcement activities, the Food and Drug Administration sends warning letters to entities under its jurisdiction. Some letters are not posted for public view until weeks or months after they are sent. Business owners have 15 days to respond to FDA warning letters. Warning letters often are not issued until a company has been given months to years to correct problems.

Listeria rise prompts warning in Australia

Public health officials in an Australian state have warned people about a rise in Listeria infections. New South Wales (NSW) Health is reminding people who are immunocompromised, pregnant, or aged over 65 years old to avoid foods that can cause listeriosis. There are typically 20 to 30 cases of listeriosis reported each year in NSW. At the end of May 2023, 17 listeriosis notifications had been recorded, which was above the five-year average of 10 cases for the same period.
