The 2022 FoodTech 500: recap of the official unveiling event in Berlin

The FoodTech industry is a rapidly changing landscape, marked by continuous progress and innovation year after year. As part of our European Unveiling 2022 FoodTech 500 Tour, this time we collaborated with Kitchentown to host an event in Berlin on the 20th of April, bringing together members of the German FoodTech community to celebrate the release of this year’s list.

The 2022 FoodTech 500

The 2022 edition of FoodTech 500 was a great success, gathering over 2,000+ applications from more than 67 countries, and this year’s list highlights the amazing diversity of people working towards addressing the global food crisis.

The Official Unveiling Event at Kitchentown in Berlin

The event kicked off with an introduction by Lukas Neuß, Co-Founder & Managing Director at Kitchentown, where he presented their incredible work – As a Hub for food innovators situated in one of Europe’s most vibrant and innovative cities, Kitchentown is dedicated to developing, commercializing, and launching impact-driven food products, providing end-to-end services for startups of any size or stage. It was a privilege to partner up with such a key ecosystem player, looking forward to the next event!

Next, we proceeded directly into the FoodTech 500 with an introduction by Max Leveau, Co-founder & COO of Forward Fooding, who showcased the definitive list of the most inspirational businesses in the world of AgriFoodTech, and also delved into the incredible entrepreneurial talent behind the German FoodTech ecosystem.

Max then presented the German Wall of Fame, highlighting the startups and scaleups of this year’s German ecosystem of the FoodTech 500 that are highly promising and influential companies working across all the verticals of our taxonomy. It was truly inspiring to see the incredible startups and scaleups that made it to this year’s FoodTech 500 list. We want to congratulate all the amazing companies that are making a huge impact on our Food System.

The German FoodTech Heroes

As the evening progressed, we had the pleasure of inviting some of the leading German startups to join us on stage to present their company.

We kicked things off with Klim, a company that enables farmers to transition to regenerative agriculture at scale by providing them financial support, knowledge, documentation tools, and a community via our digital companion for farmers. We also had BIOMES, a biotechnological pioneer company that specializes in improving everyone’s well-being by analyzing and interpreting the human microbiome.

Next up, we heard from vly, a foodtech startup that produces delicious milk alternatives made from pea protein. And finally, we welcomed on stage BettaF!ish, the first company developing 100% plant-based tuna alternatives mainly created with seaweed from Europe

To wrap up the pitching session, we brought together a distinguished panel of industry experts to engage in an insightful conversation. Our panelists included our Co-founder & COO Max Leveau, Albrecht Wolfmeyer, International & National Head at Proveg Incubator, Lia Marlen Schmokel, Founder at Nutrition Hub, and Lukas Neuß, Co-Founder & Managing Director at Kitchentown. The focus of the discussion centered on the future of the AgriFoodTech industry, and the potential technological advancements expected in the upcoming years. Each speaker shared their personal stories, visions for the future, and insights about their respective industry, making this a truly enlightening and inspiring discussion that you won’t want to miss out on!

To conclude the event, we had the chance to mingle with attendees with a few German beers and taste some amazing products from local FoodTech startups including Lovebites, Betta F!sh, Perfeggt, vly, and Kombuchery – thanks a lot to them for getting involved!
